-

The National Communications Entity (ENACOM) reported this Friday (27.12.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX) that, Starting next Sunday, December 29th, Argentines traveling to Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay will no longer have to pay additional roaming charges. This means that calls and mobile data consumption will have the same cost as in Argentina, depending on the plan contracted by each user.

The measure is the result of an agreement signed between the MERCOSUR Member States (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay) in July 2019, which was Ratified in Argentina by Law 27.740 in May of this yearThis regulation approves the "Agreement for the Elimination of International Roaming Charges for End Users of MERCOSUR."

According to the agreement, mobile service providers must ensure that end users pay the same prices as in their country of origin, regardless of whether they are in another MERCCOSUR member country. Thus, those who travel to these nations will be able to use their mobile telephone services as if they were in Argentina, without additional costs.

To ensure the implementation and supervision of this measure, a Technical Coordination Committee will be formed, made up of representatives of the States Parties. In the case of Argentina, this committee will be composed of the Secretariat of Innovation, Science and Technology and ENACOM.

Roaming is a service that allows mobile phone users to connect to a foreign network to receive calls, make calls and use data, without having to make additional settings on their device. The elimination of roaming charges is a significant step towards regional integration, increasing the well-being of the population in MERCOSUR.
