-

The border crossing from San Ysidro (California, USA) to Tijuana (Mexico), which was closed on Saturday for works to expand it, reopened on Monday (25.09.2017) twelve hours earlier than planned, confirmed the General Services Agency (GSA).

The busy access to the Mexican customs El Chaparral remained Closed for 45 hours this weekend, during which time retaining walls and a canopy located south of San Diego's two main freeways were dismantled.

Pedestrian crossings from Mexico to the United States and vice versa remained open, as did vehicle crossings from Mexico to the United States.

obras are part of the last phase in the expansion project from the San Ysidro international gate, which will be ready in 2019.

The border crossing between Tijuana and San Diego is considered the busiest in the world, with an average of 50.000 vehicles and 25.000 pedestrians passing through each day.

On average, about 40.000 vehicles pass through the San Ysidro Pass into Mexico City each weekend, according to GSA estimates.
