Chilean customs intercepts contraband in Bolivian truck

-

More than $138 million worth of women's shoes, jackets and sneakers were seized yesterday by inspectors of the National Customs Service at the Colchane border complex in the Tarapacá Region (north).

The cargo was intended to leave the country with destination to Bolivia using false documentation which indicated different and lesser value goods. The procedure was registered when the customs officers established inconsistencies between this documentation and the electronic records recorded in the Free Trade Zone database, so a physical inspection was carried out, proving the falsification.

The regional director of Customs, Ricardo Aceituno, explained that it was "A Bolivian truck loaded in the Free Trade Zone and intended to take the contraband to Bermejo, in the province of Tarija". He added that the truck and the semi-trailer were placed in fiscal custody. In addition, the legal department of Customs will file a complaint and a lawsuit against all those involved.
