Uruguay installs video surveillance cameras at border

-

Within the framework of the national video surveillance system, the Ministry of the Interior began installing 1.000 cameras in the departments of Artigas, Cerro Largo, Rivera and Rocha.

These cameras are part of a donation of 2.100 devices that Uruguay received from China.

It involves 1.900 fixed cameras and 200 mobile domes with their corresponding equipment (servers, network equipment, among others)..

According to the Ministry of the Interior, this technology “will be used in the border video surveillance system, as announced in 2017 by Minister Eduardo Bonomi.”

In addition, each of the police headquarters in the four departments will have its own monitoring center, and the images will also be monitored in real time from the Unified Command Center in Montevideo.

The completion of the works is scheduled for next September.

National video surveillance system

The Ministry of the Interior is therefore in the process of implementing a “National video surveillance system” within the framework of a national urban video surveillance strategy” initiated in 2012.

To implement this system, "a strong investment has been made in this type of technology supported by video analysis tools to optimize and enhance it, such as behavioral analysis and license plate recognition," the Ministry of the Interior stressed in a statement.
