Argentina: How does Senasa control the Cristo Redentor crossing?

-

The National Service for Food Safety and Quality (Senasa) is present at the Cristo Redentor International Passage in the province of Mendoza, as well as along the common border with Chile.

It is a place characterized by concentrating the largest flow of merchandise and private vehicle traffic.

What load does it control?

In this way, Senasa controls and certifies daily exports, imports and international transits of plant and animal products and derivatives.

Where does it control?

These tasks are performed in the integrated control area of the Step Christ the Redeemer, located in Uspallata, Monday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 20 p.m., and with guards on weekends (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) until 3 a.m.

During the last month of June, there was not as much movement due to weather conditions as in the summer months, more than 2.000 operations related to international transit were issued, and more than 1.000 export certifications, as well as imports of products and by-products of animal and plant origin.

Why does it control?

Among the tasks that Senasa agents carry out in the office located in the customs complex, we can mention the processing of samples of fruits and other products, in order to prevent the entry of pests regulated and diseases that affect the zoo-phytosanitary heritage, thus constituting the first barrier to defend Argentina's agricultural heritage.
