Santa Cruz: Cold storage facility to export guanaco meat

The National Service for Food Safety and Quality (Senasa) has authorized a meat processing plant in the province of Santa Cruz to export guanaco meat in cuts with and without bones to the European Union (EU).

Inter-institutional work
This activity is a result of the Inter-institutional work with the value-added chain In addition to Senasa, the statement details, the Ministries of Agroindustry and Science and Technology of the Nation, the Agrarian Council of Santa Cruz, the National Institutes of Agricultural Technology (INTA) and Industrial Technology (INTI), the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET), the Federation of Agricultural Institutions of Santa Cruz (FIAS) and rural societies of the Province, among others, participated in the event.

Sustainable use
Provision 766-E/2017 of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Nation authorizes "the export, interprovincial transit and commercialization in national jurisdiction of products and by-products obtained within the framework of the Sustainable Use Project of Wild Guanacos corresponding to up to a maximum of 6 thousand individuals".

Familyili Refrigerator
On June 10 and 11, slaughter tests were carried out in the refrigerator to obtain the products required for their next export under the supervision of Senasa.
This authorization of the Faimaili slaughterhouse, located in Río Gallegos, is within the framework of the Sustainable Management Plan for the Guanaco of Santa Cruz. This step achieved by the establishment opens up possibilities for future orders of the product to be exported.
