The measure modifies Regulation (EU) 2021/405 and is part of the European food safety scheme based on the "One Health" approach, aimed at reducing antimicrobial resistance through stricter controls throughout the entire production chain.
The new regime It establishes that third countries must demonstrate effective compliance. of European health standards, with special emphasis on product traceability and restrictions on the use of certain antimicrobials in animals intended for human consumption.

According to the European Commission, not all the required guarantees regarding health compliance were fully demonstrated, particularly concerning the use of antimicrobials throughout the production chain.
The regulations do not establish a total ban or embargo on imports from Brazil, but rather an update to the health regime for access to the European market, which conditions exports on compliance with specific standards.
