In order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of administrations, the World Customs Organization (WCO) announced this Thursday (02.11.2021) the Spanish version of “CENcomm”, a communication platform for the customs control network, which allows a group of authorized officials to exchange messages through encrypted channels in real time, during the course of an operation or project. This system, accessible via the Internet 24 hours a day, is available in English, French, Russian, and now in Spanish, “thanks to the financial support of Japan,” the Organization indicated.
The announcement of the new Spanish version coincides with that of theThe inauguration of the new Regional Intelligence Liaison Office (RILO) for Central America, based in Guatemala, an establishment that serves six Spanish-speaking countries and joins the two RILOs already existing in the region, namely: the RILO for South America in Chile and the RILO for the Caribbean in Bermuda.
According to the WCO, the exchange of information, intelligence, alerts and seizures at national, regional and international levels is a fundamental activity in the fight against illicit trafficking. In view of this, the organization developed the CENcomm secure communication tool in 2005. Then, in 2020, a more sophisticated version of the application was implemented, incorporating new functionalities that take advantage of the latest technologies on the market.
“Now, the addition of Spanish to CENcomm’s communication tool will increase the participation of Spanish-speaking users in the area of information and intelligence sharing, and will further reduce language barriers, allowing CENcomm to fulfill its mission as a global communication tool for Customs to enforce the law,” the WCO noted.WCO Press Release)
