The LXVII Summit of Presidents of MERCOSUR and Associated States will be held on the days June 29th and 30th in LuqueParaguay, a city located a few minutes from Asunción, as reported this Wednesday (09.06.2026) by the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs when announcing the opening of the accreditation period for media interested in covering the meeting.

The meeting will be held at the CONMEBOL headquarters and will mark the end of Paraguay's Pro Tempore Presidency and its transfer to Uruguay, at the end of the first half of a year in which MERCOSUR commemorates 35 years since the Treaty of Asunción.

During the summit, the leaders will assess the progress made on the bloc's domestic and international agenda. Internationally, the recent agenda has been characterized by the strengthening of a diversified network of trade agreements and by progress in implementing the agreement with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the provisional trade agreement between MERCOSUR and the European Union, which entered into force on May 1.

Currently, the Pro Tempore Presidency is held by Paraguay under the leadership of President Santiago Peña. This is the highest political coordination body of MERCOSUR and is held on a rotating basis by the Member States for a period of six months, in alphabetical order, and is assumed by the head of state of the country holding the position. With the planned transfer During the summit, Uruguay will assume the 70th Pro Tempore Presidency of the bloc, in accordance with this system established by the Treaty of Asunción.
