The initiative will be implemented from March under the name of IATA Travel Passes y It consists of an application for mobile devices on which passengers can store and manage COVID-19 test certificates or vaccination against the disease.

The app will also allow healthcare providers to securely upload test results and vaccination certificates to users' accounts and link those documents to a traveler's identity to prevent misuse.

The initiative will go live on Apple iOS in the first quarter of 2021 and on Android in the second quarter. It will be free for users, but airlines will have to pay a small fee per passenger.
The project works on the basis of a set of entry requirements and another for laboratories, testing and vaccination centres, a means for passengers to securely upload test or vaccination certificates to their phones and a digital identity to verify the certificate's owner,
