Guatemala will streamline and facilitate foreign trade operations with the Republic of China (Taiwan)

-

Guatemala will streamline and facilitate import and export trade operations with the Republic of China (Taiwan), thanks to the signing of the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between the Superintendency of Tax Administration (SAT) and the Customs Service of the Ministry of Finance, that will allow the recognition of certified companies in the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program, according to information from the SAT.

The signing of the agreement, held on Thursday (27.05.2021), will contribute to facilitate foreign trade of Guatemala with the Republic of China (Taiwan), granting reciprocal benefits to operators certified under such programs, allowing them to reduce costs and time in their activities, which will provide a higher level of competitiveness of the private sector, the country and its integration into the global economy.

This agreement is developed in compliance with the Pillar 1 of the World Customs Organization (WCO) SAFE Framework, referring to “customs-customs”, which indicates that customs administrations must work together to maximize the security of cargo sent to and from both countries, in order to strengthen and facilitate the logistics chain of international trade.

The mutual recognition agreement was signed by the  Superintendent of Tax Administration, Marco Livio Díaz, and the Director General of the Customs Service of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Ling Yuan Hsieh, accompanied by the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Guatemala, Li-Cheng, and the Superintendent of Customs of the SAT, Werner Ovalle, the statement said.

The AEO Program provides a series of facilities in its cargo control operations, simplification of procedures, direct link and personalized attention at Customs, improves security by reducing tax fraud and facilitates trade. The entry process is free and voluntary.
