The National Government announced this Tuesday (13.05.2025) a gradual reduction of tariffs and internal taxes on electronic products, which has not yet been formalized but it is expected to be implemented by decree in the coming days:
- Cell PhonesThe tariff will be reduced from 16% to 8%, and will be completely eliminated in 2026.
- Electronics: Internal taxes on cell phones, televisions, and air conditioners will be reduced from 19% to 9,5%.
- Land of FireThe 9,5% internal tax on products manufactured there will be eliminated.
- Video game consoles: The tariff will be reduced from 35% to 20%.
(I.e.Impact on prices. A is expected 30% drop in the prices of these products, aligning Argentina with neighboring countries like Chile and Brazil. Cell phones, for example, could cost up to half what they do in Argentina, according to the Ministry of Economy.
(I.e.Logistics and Tierra del Fuego. It will be enabled courier service between Tierra del Fuego and the mainland, improving access to products at lower prices.
(I.e.General effectsThe announced measure seeks to reduce prices, improve purchasing power, and align Argentina with regional standards. It also aims to combat smuggling, the theft of devices and the technological delay that harms both consumers as well as companies, as explained by the Ministry of Economy.
As noted, it is expected to be formalized by decree so that it can come into effect.
