An event organized by China Customs was held this week to mark International Customs Day, with the participation of government agencies and customs attachés from nearly 30 countries and regions.
During the event, which took place on Wednesday, the Vice Minister Wang Lingjun of the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) shared the progress in the implementation of the initiative known as "Smart Customs, Smart Borders and Smart Connectivity" or «3S»by Chinese President Xi Jinping, which sets out a roadmap towards smart solutions for customs control, governance and cooperation.
Wang Lingjun expressed his hope that the meeting would promote exchanges among participants. In this regard, he proposed that the global customs community jointly build smart customs (through advanced technologies and innovative approaches), promote smart borders (via information sharing and mutual recognition), and achieve smart connectivity (through closer cooperation among all stakeholders).
In his speech, the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Kunio Mikuriya, praised the achievements of China Customs in implementing the “3S” Initiative. He also noted that the decision is in line with the WCO’s goals of capitalizing on technology and innovation, as well as ensuring connectivity at borders. In this regard, Mikuriya encouraged the international customs community to work together to improve data management and digital transformation, in line with the WCO’s motto for this year.
The event also featured a panel discussion, where partners from several pilot projects of the 3S initiative from China and seven other countries shared their experience and views on how to further strengthen cooperation between customs and other stakeholders for economic and trade recovery.WCO statement)
