Chile and Paraguay reaffirm bilateral ties with emphasis on the bioceanic corridor

-

With more than 100 years of relations and mutual support, both at the regional and multilateral level, Chile and Paraguay reaffirmed their ties. The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, and his Paraguayan counterpart, Santiago Peña, assured the will of their governments to expand and deepen trade, investments, physical and digital integration, in addition to promoting Bioceanic Road Corridor.

These commitments were announced in a statement issued on Wednesday (17.07.2024) following the official visit made by the Chilean president to Paraguay.

The Chilean president stated that one of the main points discussed with his Paraguayan counterpart was the Bioceanic Road Corridor, which constitutes “a tremendous infrastructure initiative, which will be essential for the development of the region and the union of the Pacific and Atlantic ports, which implies the opening to new markets for both Chile and Paraguay, and also Brazil and Argentina.”

On this point, Boric announced that the project is a priority for his country and that in this regard, a "high-level commission" will be formed for the necessary works in the trans-Andean country that will allow connectivity to be achieved as soon as possible.

"Chile and Paraguay have built a fraternal path that has allowed them to strengthen bilateral relations. These relations, in particular, have been strengthened and have provided concrete tasks for the benefit of our peoples," he stressed.

Along these lines, it is worth remembering that on February 14, 2024, the Chile-Paraguay Trade Agreement corresponding to the Sixty-Sixth Additional Protocol of the ACE No. 35 Chile-Mercosur came into force internationally, thereby connecting with the modernization of relations between Chile and Paraguay, that is to say, commitments were incorporated into the agreement in areas such as: Electronic Commerce, Good Regulatory Practices, Regional and Global Value Chains, Gender, Environment and Labor Affairs.

At the end of the official visit, the Governments of Chile and Paraguay, through their Ministers of Foreign Affairs, signed a letter of intent on the negotiation of the agreement between both countries to avoid double taxation and to prevent tax evasion and avoidance in relation to income and wealth tax, among other documents.Communication)
