Within the framework of comprehensive assurance of the foreign trade logistics chain and border protection, one of the tools used is the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Program led by the Chilean National Customs Service.

This initiative, which is led globally by the World Customs Organization (WCO) and is present in countries on all continents, has among its objectives the participation of the private sector in the task of guaranteeing security in order to minimize the risks associated with international trade.

To continue adding companies, ProChile coordinated with Customs to hold the Workshop "AEO Certification: Authorized Economic Operator”, which had the participation of more than 50 people interested in knowing the characteristics of the program, the application and accreditation process, the requirements and the benefits that can be accessed.

Information was also provided on the Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA) for AEO Programs signed to date by Chilean Customs with other Customs around the world.

Two professionals from the OAS Unit of the Technical Sub-Directorate spoke on behalf of Customs: Senior Auditor Waleska Lufin and lawyer Pablo Toledo. They were joined by representatives of the chemical company BASF, which has certified its export and import activities, and the fruit company Greenex, certified for export, to share their experiences.

«For Customs, and especially the Sub-directorate that I lead, providing this type of training is essential, as it allows us to ensure that more actors in the supply chain comply with international security standards, adhering to initiatives such as the OAS Program, which strengthens customs oversight and promotes safer and more efficient foreign trade. These types of initiatives demonstrate the value that we see in collaboration between public institutions and the private sector in moving towards safer, fairer and more competitive trade.", explained the Technical Deputy Director, Gabriela Landeros.
