The Latin American Academy of Customs Law is born

Lawyers of proven competence promoted the creation of the Latin American Academy of Customs Law, the first legal institution of its kind in the region. This project was announced on Friday (09.08.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX) in the City of Montevideo, Eastern Republic of Uruguay. Its main objective is to promote Customs Law by uniting those who academically develop the discipline and practice it in their profession in the different countries of Latin America.

According to the founding act that formalizes its creation, the Latin American Academy of Customs Law (ALDA, in Spanish) is structured on “the pillars of broad, plural contribution and the free expression of critical thought, the formation of ideas and the democratic principles of the rule of law, in defense of full respect for fundamental freedoms.”

There are twenty-three (23) founding members who attended the ADLA constitution ceremony. Its first Board of Directors is composed of Dr. Andrés Varela (Uruguay) as President, Dr. Lorena Bartomioli (Argentina) as Vice President and Dr. Claudio Augusto Gonçalves Pereira (Brazil) as Secretary.

Before a query of Customs News, the President of the Academy stressed that the creation of the Latin American Academy of Customs Law is a significant step for Customs Law in Latin America. In his words: "The founding idea on which it is based is the conviction of the need to deepen the knowledge and development of Customs Law, strengthening ties between academics and professionals who practice in the area of ​​Customs Law in our region..

"To do this, a structure is required that is substantially horizontal, that works with National Sections of the Latin American Academy of Customs Law, that can promote Customs Law in each of the countries, but simultaneously contribute to the development of Latin American Customs Law, by working together to create greater networks of connection and integration.", Varela explained.

In this regard, he said: “The members of the Board of Directors, honoured by the appointment, have undertaken the commitment to work hard to fulfil the mandate of the founding members, and have set a demanding agenda, which will include, among other issues, collecting applications for membership from future members who share the same aims and principles.”

In this way, the new Latin American Academy of Customs Law will carry out an enormous task for the growth of the discipline.
