Argentina reaffirms its health status: the WHO ratified the country as free of foot-and-mouth disease.

SENASA announced the international ratification of Argentina's health status. At the 92nd General Session of the Assembly of Delegates, the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO) ratified Argentina as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease, consolidating its position as a reliable supplier of meat and animal products to international markets.

The National Service of Health and Agri-Food Quality (SENASA), the body responsible for planning, organizing and executing programs that regulate agri-food production with a focus on "food safety", was the one who officially communicated this Friday (30.05.2025) the decision of the international organization.

The update of the health status distinguishes the Patagonia as a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone without vaccination, And north-central part of the country as a vaccination-free zone, following the unification of the northern Argentine border with the latter region. The OMSA recognized this status after Senasa submitted the corresponding health and epidemiological information.

During the official ceremony, the president of the OMSA, Susana Pombo, and the general director, Emmanuelle Soubeyranpresented the Argentine delegation with the certificate confirming the new health status. The recognition reinforces the country's commitment to animal health and its presence in international trade.

Vaccination, international standards and bilateral cooperation

In parallel with the health ratification, the General Session included a international forum on vaccination, where this tool was highlighted as a central axis in the prevention and eradication of animal diseases. The need for reduce the use of antimicrobials, in line with health risk mitigation strategies to ensure the biosecurity of global trade.

The Assembly also adopted new international standards for Terrestrial Animal Health Code, Sanitary Code for Aquatic Animals and the Terrestrial Laboratory ManualOMSA member states were encouraged to implement these standards in their business operations.

As part of its agenda, the Argentine delegation held bilateral meetings with France, Chile, Türkiye and JapanA notable milestone was the announcement by the Japanese delegation, which informed the Authorization to import poultry meat and eggs from Argentina, following the technical analysis of the documentation sent by Senasa and the efforts of the National Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.

This opening represents a strategic advance for the national agri-food sector, and reflects the Argentine healthcare prestige on the international stage.
