Faster customs procedures, AFIP advances in digitalization

-

The Federal Public Revenue Administration (AFIP) is advancing in the digitalization of procedures to facilitate production and foreign trade operations. The agency led by Florencia Misrahi implemented a mechanism for customs users to electronically view files related to challenges to the valuation of merchandise carried out by the General Directorate of Customs (DGA).

Until now, these procedures were processed in paper format. In this sense, the General Resolution 5557/2024 The new regulation, published today (02.09.2024) in the Official Gazette, is an important step forward in the digitalisation of customs procedures. By allowing the electronic management of files, not only is the need for physical space to store documents reduced, but administrative tasks are also streamlined for both customs staff and taxpayers. This makes it easier to view and monitor files without having to go to the offices, improving the efficiency and accessibility of the process.

This new procedure will be in a first optional moment and will be valid only for cases in which the DGA challenges the valuation of the merchandise reported by the taxpayer at the time of carrying out the foreign trade operation. Thus, the taxpayer will be able to follow the file virtually, since the information will be sent to his electronic tax address.

The agency intends to review the different records, receipts, obligations and information regimes implemented during previous administrations that could hinder the streamlining of processes, interfere with trade or increase costs. As part of this process, this regulation was issued, which it plans to extend to other administrative processes in the near future.
