Border crossing between Chile and Argentina reopens

The Cristo Redentor international crossing, which connects the Argentine province of Mendoza with the Chilean region of Valparaíso, has been reopened to the passage of all vehicles, the Argentine Gendarmerie reported.

TwithAlso known as the Libertadores Pass, the international tunnel was closed last Friday (29.09.2017) due to snowfall and strong winds that endangered traffic through the Andes mountain range.

On the morning of October 1, it was reopened, but in the evening it was closed again.

Until further notice, vehicles using the pass must carry chains, the Gendarmerie said.

The tunnel that crosses the Andes is 3 kilometers long and is located at an altitude of more than 3.200 meters.
