The Americas Society/Council of the Americas (AS/COA), in association with the Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC), held the Council of the Americas conference this Wednesday (14.08.2024) at the Alvear Palace Hotel, where political leaders and business leaders analyzed the current political and economic situation in the country and future prospects.

The opening was carried out by Natalio Mario Grinman y Susan Segal, presidents of the CAC and AS/COA, respectively. Thus, Grinman began by outlining the difficult situation that the country is going through. Despite this, he was optimistic. “I am convinced that Argentines are making substantial progress. In its first months, the current national administration began a path of transformation, as necessary as it has been so often postponed.”

Segal also said that Argentina should continue with initiatives to facilitate investment in strategic sectors and emphasized that the U.S. should maintain ties with Argentina and the region. "We will continue to support Argentina."

Then Guillermo Francos, Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers, praised the management of the President of the Nation, as he has managed to advance with modifications and proposals under a Basic Law "that has already had and will have the capacity to transform the lives of Argentines," because "it will allow the repeal of a series of regulations in the economy," something that has been advanced.

For its part, Jorge Macri, Head of Government of the City of Buenos Aires, expressed his agreement with the management of President Javier Milei. He highlighted the support for the private sector, the promotion of the local economy, international relations and the management capacity of the City in the complex economic and social scenario that the country is experiencing.

The day continued with the exhibition of the Chancellor Diana Mondino, who referred to the export development for the general objective of increase exports. To this end, he stressed the impetus that the Foreign Ministry is giving to the promotion of foreign trade, the opening of new markets and long-term ties with countries in all regions, within the framework of the process of liberalizing the economy to facilitate trade and investment.

The day at the hotel continued with the words of Patricia Bullrich, who expressed support from the security perspective with a concept of economic, legal and public order so that Argentina can move forward and invest.

Representing the private sectors and on “The opportunities of artificial intelligence”, Mauricio Consulo (Amazon Web Services), Roberto Prado (Salesforce), Natalia Scaliter ( Google Cloud Multi Country Organization South), Paula Vargas (Meta), moderated by Guillermo Meyer of Globant.

Later, the CAC audience held a conversation with the governors Alfredo Cornejo (Mendoza), Rolando Figueroa (Neuquén), Ignacio Torres (Chubut), Carlos Sadir (Jujuy), moderated by Martín Genesio, President and CEO of AES Argentina Generación SA. They all expressed their commitment to accelerating a more sustainable energy future in Argentina.

The day continued with Federico Sturzenegger, who has been the Minister of Deregulation and Transformation of the State of the Argentine Nation since July 5, 2024. In his speech, he stated that “the objective is not to simplify procedures, but to eliminate them. The agenda of freedom is that of development; we are convinced that this is the way to become a more developed country,” he said.

In that framework, the President of the Nation, Javier Milei, closed the 2024 Council of the Americas Annual Conference before a packed audience. He assured that his program for Argentina's economy is based on three major foundations: "an orderly macroeconomy without tricks or shortcuts, to provide a definitive solution to the problem of inflation; a deep cut in public spending to alleviate the burden on the private sector and an obsessive focus on deregulation and returning freedom to each and every Argentine."

“Believe me, we can do it, and we will do it. I am sure that all of you, who are protagonists of Argentine economic life, will play a fundamental role in this process,” he concluded.
