The World Customs Organization (WCO) announced the release of version 4.2.0 of its Data Model, a development that represents "a significant step towards the digitalization and harmonization of customs procedures worldwide." The update incorporates two key data sets—Customs Bonds and Certificates of Origin—that offer members concrete tools to streamline operations and improve the efficiency of digital processes in customs.
This was reported by the organization on Tuesday (15.07.2025), through a statement published on its official website.
"The WCO Data Model provides a comprehensive framework for standardizing data elements in cross-border trade."The text states. Version 4.2.0 builds on this foundation, incorporating new standardized data sets that strengthen essential processes for customs administrations.
In this way, the WCO detailed the Main new features of version 4.2.0:
(I.e.Customs Bond Information PackageThis new dataset allows WCO members requiring customs bonds issued by surety entities to streamline and digitize their bond submission processes. By adopting this standard, members can reduce administrative burdens, improve regulatory compliance, and automate obligation management to protect public revenues. The WCO explains that the standardized approach also reduces implementation time and costs, enabling greater operational efficiency and faster implementation of digitalized customs bond processes.
(I.e.Certificate of Origin Information Packet: Developed from the dataset developed by the Technical Committee on Rules of Origin (TCRO), this package allows for the digitization of electronic Certificates of Origin (eCOs). According to the WCO, this digitization "improves the validation of product origin, helping to combat fraud and ensure fair trade practices."
Version 4.2.0 of the WCO Data Model is now available to members and stakeholders. The organization encourages its members to adopt and implement this latest version to "fully reap the benefits of standardized and digitalized customs procedures."
