The trade balance reached USD 484 million in January

Last January, Argentina recorded a Trade deficit of USD 484 million, which contrasts with the positive balance of the same month in 2022, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC) reported today (22.02.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX).

This result was caused by a strong Exports fell by 11,7% and a slight imports rise by 2,5%.

According to INDEC, shipments abroad totaled USD 4900 billion and income USD 5384 billion, which meant a global exchange of USD 10.284 billion, 4,8% less than the previous month.

Exports in the sector of primary products (PP) decreased 42,5%; and fuels and energy (CyE), 5,2%; while manufactures of industrial origin (MOI) increased 12,5%; and manufactures of agricultural origin (MOA), 1,0%.

This drop was mainly due to the Lower sales of wheat and meslin, biodiesel, corn and sunflower oil, showing a strong impact of the absence of rainfall on foreign trade.

Regarding imports, the 12,3% drop in Capital Goods and the 10,5% drop in Intermediate Goods stand out on the one hand, as does the strong 96,1% increase in fuel purchases.

Regarding exchange with the main partners, the trade was deficit with China (USD 723 million), Brazil (USD 462 million), the European Union (USD 249 million) and the United States (USD 122 million).

Main surpluses were reached with Chile (USD 195 million) and Peru (USD 179), according to INDEC.
