The Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (Sieca) announced that "in the future" new peripheral customs offices will be activated, including: Puerto Barrios, Puerto Quetzal and Santo Tomas de Castilla, located in Guatemalan territory.
With this initiative, the process of deep integration between the Republic of Guatemala and the Republic of Honduras will advance another step towards the free movement of goods and people.
The information was released on Secretary General of Sieca, Francisco Lima, last week (17.02.2023/2022/XNUMX) during his visit to Puerto Cortés (Honduras), where he detailed some data on the integration process between Guatemala and Honduras. “As of September XNUMX, more than XNUMX people were registered 607 operations bound for the territory of Guatemala,” he said.
In addition to this, the Central American authority recalled that operations began in three countries in October 2020. peripheral customs: Tecún Umán II (Guatemala), Puerto Cortés and Guasaule (Honduras).
Another positive change in the deep integration process was reflected in the three Integrated Border Postss (PFI). Regarding these common ground points, Sieca indicated that Corinth (Honduras) and El Florido (Guatemala) recorded the highest number of free circulation operations (35% of the total each).
