The Latin American Integration Association (ALADI) paid tribute to Ambassador Gustavo Magariños last Wednesday (04.09.2024) in a ceremony that took place at its headquarters, where Permanent Representations of the member countries met, along with family and friends of the diplomat. At the event, which was attended by the Foreign Minister of Uruguay, Omar Paganini, a commemorative plaque was unveiled and the ALADI Library was officially named after Magariños, in recognition of his valuable career.
On the occasion, the Secretary General of ALADI, Sergio Abreu, highlighted the ambassador's fundamental role in Latin American integration, describing him as "an architect of integration." Magariños played a key role in the creation of the Latin American Free Trade Association (ALALC), held senior positions in the Executive Secretariat of ALADI and was a tireless negotiator of regional trade agreements. His work "Latin American Economic Integration" reflects his deep knowledge and dedication to the integration process.
ALADI, as part of its modernization, also presented the Digital Library, which facilitates access to an online catalog available in multiple languages, promoting inclusion and the development of regional policies.
The event concluded with a special thank you to Magariños' family for their support, and with an invitation to learn about the valuable resources of the library, which from now on bears the name of the man who was a reference in the integration of Latin America.
