Central America: Honduras and El Salvador facilitate trade with the Advance Declaration in El Amatillo

SIECA announced this Monday (16.10.2023) the implementation of the Advance Declaration at the El Amatillo Border Post, between El Salvador and Honduras. This measure, part of the Central American Trade Facilitation and Competitiveness Strategy, will allow to speed up the transport of goods in the region, positively impacting trade flows.

The event was attended by the Minister of Economy of El Salvador, María Luisa Hayem, President Pro Tempore of COMIECO; Fredis Cerrato, Secretary of State in the Secretariat of Economic Development of Honduras, Francisco A. Lima Mena, Secretary General of SIECA, and senior officials from both countries.

Secretary Lima Mena said that "the implementation of the Advance Declaration at several border posts between El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras has proven to be effective in streamlining trade flows and reducing times at these points."

He explained that since its implementation, a total of 64,635 foreign trade operations with DUCA-F at the border posts of Guatemala and Honduras, and 43,745 operations at border posts between Guatemala and El Salvador. «These figures "They reflect the success of this measure in reducing the time spent by means of transport and in improving cooperation between customs and health authorities," said Lima Mena.

In this regard, he acknowledged the leadership and drive of the Honduran and Salvadoran authorities in this process, as well as the importance of the support of the private sector and users to ensure the success of the measure.

"The Advance Declaration in El Amatillo is a historic step forward that strengthens economic integration in Central America and demonstrates the commitment of member countries to overcome challenges and promote regional development, hoping that this initiative will be another step towards greater cooperation and prosperity in the region," said the head of SIECA at the end of his speech.

It is worth remembering that the El Amatillo Border Post, between El Salvador and Honduras, in relation to cargo transportation, is of great importance both bilaterally and regionally, since it is the main land route used for trade between these countries. In addition, it is a highly demanded step for El Salvador's bilateral trade with Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama, as well as for Mexico and Guatemala's trade with Honduras.
