Guatemala relies on the Power BI dashboard to visualize data and strengthen customs control

The Superintendency of Tax Administration of Guatemala (SAT-G) is responsible for the management of the Customs Service. The state entity reported on Wednesday (28.06.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) the use of the Microsoft Power BI Dashboard which allows for close-up visualization of foreign trade operations data and increases the efficiency of customs control.

Based on Customs information, this powerful tool helps to effectively identify the following: types of risk:

  • Customs fraud.
  • Risk merchandise from different sources (footwear, lingerie, parcels, clothing, textiles, among others).
  • Operations of special regimes (maquilas, free zones).
  • Endorsements for merchandise.
  • Indications of undeclared goods.
  • Time spent in ports.
  • Goods that must comply with non-tariff regulations and restrictions.

In addition, the new dashboard facilitates the identification of risks, prior to dispatch. Selectivity based on these contingencies operates more effectively within the automated environment and can be applied to imports and exports quickly and accurately. “It is a competitive advantage for making better decisions, improving efficiency and transparency in customs operations,” said SAT-G.

On the other hand, this tool contributes to the supply chain security. In this regard, SAT-G said that the Power BI dashboard “is one more action of the Strategy against Customs Fraud implemented by the Customs Office.” It helps with risk analysis based on the following information, obtained through cooperation between customs and customs, customs and the private sector, and customs and other government agencies. In detail:

  • Customs alerts for valuation, tariff classification and preferential treatment.
  • Non-intrusive tools (X-rays) of means of transport in customs.
  • Exchange of banking information, issuance of alerts before, during and after dispatch.
  • Exchange of information between customs within the framework of the Multilateral Customs Agreement of Latin America, Spain and Portugal (COMALEP).
  • Regional Strategy for Comprehensive Customs Management, within the framework of the Customs Union.
  • Customs risk management system.
  • Information exchange through the Central American Regional Intelligence Liaison Office RILO CAM.
  • Use of World Customs Organization tools for information exchange on CEN, CENCOM, Ncen platforms.
  • CTS charge selectivity system.
  • Container Control Unit (UCC). Pre-clearance risk analysis at maritime customs.

Additionally, the SAT-G recalled that the Customs Office is working with the World Customs Organization to develop this data analysis tool in the audit. after dispatch,  For which a survey was carried out recent training by Japan.

During the closing of the press conference, broadcast on Facebook, Guatemalan authorities emphasized that the incorporation of the data analysis tool is part of the Comprehensive Customs Modernization Program that responds to the execution of the institutional plan of the SAT-G with short, medium and long-term goals, as well as compliance with international agreements on trade facilitation.News) (Press conference)
