Guatemala implements digital tool to strengthen post-clearance auditing

The Guatemalan Tax Administration Superintendency (SAT) assured that it will implement advanced analysis to identify inconsistencies or bad practices in foreign trade operations, related to correct tariff classification, valuation or origin of goods.

To this end, the agency conducted, from June 5 to 9, 2023, a data analysis workshop for the preparation of Post-Clearance Audits and the implementation of a Microsoft Power BI Dashboard as a versatile tool to specify and focus information panels for import and export declarations.

He explained that this project, promoted by the World Customs Organization, is intended to help strengthen customs controls.

The workshop was given by Shingo Tanagami, Representative of the Compliance and Facilitation Directorate of the World Customs Organization, who shared with staff from the Customs Control Unit of the Customs Superintendency and the Foreign Trade Supervision Department of the SAT Supervision Superintendency, international best practices that will facilitate international trade.

It should be noted that Guatemala Customs has made the development of new risk management strategies a key consideration.
