The General Directorate of Customs (DGA) prevented the smuggling of more than 300 liters of fuel that a citizen of Paraguay was trying to carry out by transporting the merchandise in soda bottles, oil and plastic cans in your car.

The man intended to put the vehicle on a raft to cross into his country; however, Customs agents seized the merchandise valued at almost $ 1.000.000.

The discovery of the customs personnel began when a car with a Paraguayan license plate, which wanted to cross to the border town of Presidente Franco by raft, arrived at the customs control of the Iguazu River Port, in the province of Misiones (Argentina).

The specialized Customs agents began the inspection of the vehicle and asked the Paraguayan citizen if he had bought something in Argentina, to which the driver replied: “I am returning to my country without having bought anything, I did not make any purchases.”

The man's response left customs inspectors with some doubts, who continued to inspect the vehicle before authorizing access to the raft.

When they checked the interior of the vehicle they were surprised to find soda bottles, plastic drums and oil containers filled with gasoline.

After the discovery, the agents removed all the merchandise from the vehicle, In total there were 313 liters of fuel, and it was seized.

This type of maneuver means "a violation of the baggage regime of the Customs Code«, said the DGA. And it recalled that this object is not part of the traveler's personal use or consumption luggage since "this route does not allow the export of fuel."

It also involves a huge risk since transporting fuel in these conditions generates an extremely dangerous maneuver due to the possibility of explosions.

"In addition to ensuring the transparency of international trade, customs controls also contribute to public safety," the DGA stressed.
