Bilateral trade between Argentina and Brazil recorded a growth of 11,1% year-on-year in April 2025, reaching $2.568 million, according to the latest report from the Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC). This increase occurred despite a slight monthly decrease of 0,9% compared to March 2025.
Sharp rise in imports and fall in exports
Year-on-year growth was driven by a strong increase in Argentine imports from Brazil, which grew by 45,2% compared to the same month last year and totaled USD 1597 million. However, the Argentine exports towards Brazil fell a 19,9%, reaching USD 972 million in April 2025, which represents the second consecutive month of decline compared to the previous year.
The main falls in Argentine exports to Brazil are explained by a decrease in the sale of the following: products: passenger motor vehicles, wheat, unmilled rye, barley, fresh or refrigerated horticultural products, propane, liquefied butane, and crude oil and bituminous minerals.
On the other hand, Argentine imports from Brazil increased considerably, especially in products such as passenger cars, street vehicles, freight and special-purpose vehicles, motor vehicle parts and accessories, and piston engines.
Argentine trade deficit on the rise
The trade balance between both countries was in deficit for Argentina in $625 million in April 2025, which contrasts with the positive results of previous years. This deficit is added to the accumulated deficit of USD 1.916 billion in the first four months of the year, a considerable change from the surplus of $38 million recorded in the same period in 2024.
Argentina in the trade ranking with Brazil
In April, Argentina ranked as the fifth supplier of Brazil, surpassed by China, the United States, Germany and Russia. In terms of purchases, Argentina ranked as the third largest buyer from Brazil, behind China and the United States. This represented a decline from March, when it had occupied fourth place.
Brazil maintains a surplus in its global trade
Globally, Brazil's exports grew 0,3% year-on-year in April 2025, totaling USD 30.409 billion. Imports increased 1,6% compared to April 2024, reaching USD 22.256 billion, allowing Brazil to close the month with a Trade surplus of USD 8.153 billionThis result maintains the favorable trend in Brazilian foreign trade.
