Starting in DecemberSignificant taxes will be eliminated for purchases made abroad, especially in the technological and textile sectors, with the aim of modernizing the customs system and opening up the country's foreign trade.
The Secretary of Industry and Commerce, Pablo Lavigne, detailed the Main changes:
- Extension of the import limit via courierr: The amount allowed per shipment increases from USD 1.000 to USD 3.000, matching the standards of the region.
- Tariff exemptions: The first USD 400 of each shipment for personal use will be exempt from tariffs and statistical fees, and only the corresponding VAT must be paid.
- Benefits for companies: Companies that require spare parts for maintenance and production will have fewer restrictions on urgent shipments.
- Simplified logistics: products will be delivered directly to the buyer's home, reducing costs and additional procedures.
However, Lavigne clarified that certain assets will be excluded of this benefit, as Fresh products regulated by Senasa, medicines and chemical precursors, due to specific regulations.
This measure is part of a package of reforms aimed at modernising the country's foreign trade, such as the elimination of SIRAS (Comprehensive Import Regulation System), the relaxation of non-automatic licences and the simplification of technical regulations.
The government said that "these decisions are essential to leaving behind decades of protectionist policies that placed Argentina among the most closed countries in the world, behind Sudan and Ethiopia."
The announcement will be implemented by a decree and a resolution that will be published in the Official Gazette.
