The European Union, the United States and Japan have resumed talks to reform the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and tackle unfair trade practices, at the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week.
According to release, Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Ambassador Robert E. Lighthizer, United States Trade Representative, and Cecilia Malmström, Trade Commissioner of the European Union agreed on efforts to reform the WTO.
Measures include improving information exchanges on unfair practices and "non-market-oriented policies" carried out by third countries, as well as deepening discussions regarding enforcement of legislation on these issues.
The three representatives also discussed the progress of the talks that began in 2017 and confirmed the importance of coordination among them to mitigate trade security risks by sharing best practices.
