Argentina's trade balance registers deficit of US$1.127M in August

Argentina reported a negative trade balance of 1.127 billion dollars in August 2018, the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC) said on Wednesday (26.9.2018), a figure that was worse than expected by the market.

In August, exports reached $5.167 billion and imports $6.294 billion, INDEC said.

Exports

Exports in August compared to the same month of the previous year fell 1,4%, In seasonally adjusted terms, they fell by 3,6% compared to the previous month. Prices rose
6,1% and quantities fell 7,2%.

Exports of primary products decreased by 20,5% year-on-year. Exports of manufactured goods of agricultural origin (MOA) increased by 0,4%; those of manufactured goods of industrial origin (MOI) increased by 11,3%; and exports of fuels
and energy increased by 7,8%.

Imports

Imports in the month of August decreased by 0,3% Compared to the same month last year, in seasonally adjusted terms, imports in August 2018 fell by 0,8% compared to the previous month. Prices rose by 5,5% and quantities fell by 5,4%.

Imports of capital goods fell by 24,9%, Intermediate goods increased by 16,7%; fuels and lubricants increased by 57,1%; capital goods parts and accessories sales fell 9,4%; consumer goods sales fell 4,0% and passenger motor vehicles sales fell 15,3%.

Partners

In August, the main trading partners (taking into account the sum of exports and imports) were Brazil, China and the United States, in that order.
