Summit of Customs Directors of the Americas and the Caribbean begins in Peru

The Customs Directors of the Americas and the Caribbean and 26 other countries analyze the strategies that allow Strengthening the economic recovery of America in the current context of the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, which causes Covid-19.

Peru, a South American country located on the Pacific coast, receives for the first time the XXIII Regional Conference of Directors General of Customs (CRDGA) of the Americas and the Caribbean, which takes place virtually this Thursday and Friday (April 22 and 23, 2021).

At the event they are encouraged Customs best practices that will proactively contribute to the reactivation of the economies of the participating countries, as well as establishing common positions and exchange of good practices related to the facilitation of legal trade and the prevention of customs offences in order to reduce time and costs in the logistics chain and improve the competitiveness of the countries, reported the Regional Office of the WCO.

The ceremony was opened by the Secretary General of the WCO, Kunio Mikuriya; the Regional Vice President of the WCO for the Americas and the Caribbean and Superintendent of Customs of Guatemala, Werner Ovalle; the Minister of Economy of Peru, Waldo Mendoza; and from SUNAT of Peru, the National Superintendent, Enrique Vera and the Deputy National Superintendent, Marilú Llerena.

In his speech, Werner Ovalle expressed his gratitude for the active participation of the Americas and the Caribbean region in the various activities of the WCO and those promoted by his Office. He emphasized the important results that have been obtained as part of the work axes of his administration, framed in institutional strengthening, intraregional cooperation, customs technologies and logistical security, according to the statement.

 "Customs at the service of the Recovery, renewal and resilience of the Americas and the Caribbean Region" is the motto of the meeting of Customs Directors of the region.
