Chile launched digital affidavit to speed up entry through the Southern Integration and San Sebastian border crossings

-

The National Customs Service together with the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) of Chile launched the Digital Joint Affidavit in the Border crossings Austral Integration and San Sebastián of the Magallanes Region (south) to carry out a more efficient management in the process of entering the neighboring country, eliminating the use of paper, saving resources and avoiding physical contact in accordance with the guidelines provided by the health authority in the context of the COVID 19 pandemic.

This requirement that all travelers must meet every time they enter Chile from any country abroad, from the May 1th past, is fully operational on both controls from the provinces of Magallanes and Tierra del Fuego, Chilean Customs reported on Tuesday.

Joint Affidavit

The Joint Affidavit is the document required by Customs and SAG in Border controls are carried out to declare products carried by passengers entering our country and are regulated by both Services. For the SAG, this applies to material of animal or plant origin that may contain pests and diseases not present in Chile, and for Customs, to merchandise and currency that exceed the traveler's allowance and are therefore subject to the payment of taxes.

“It is important that all travelers, whether Chilean, Argentine or of other nationalities, are well informed about the products they can carry in their luggage and the need to always make this declaration. That is why it is so important that the process has been digitalized, because it brings with it a series of benefits for both them and our services, starting with making transit through border controls more expeditious,” explained the Regional Director of Punta Arenas Customs, Rodolfo Valenzuela.

The document can be completed up to 48 hours before entering the country and once it is completed, the passenger only needs to show the result of what was declared on his/her mobile device, downloading the generated PDF file or retrieving it from his/her email, which will be required by the inspectors at the same border control.

It should be noted that the Digital Joint Affidavit was launched at the end of October 2021 at the Cardenal Samoré border controls in the Los Lagos Region; Pehuenche in the Maule Region; Diego Aracena International Airport in the Tarapacá region and at the Hua Hum pass in the River region.
