The presidents of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, and Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, will resume talks on Tuesday (12.3.2019) in Brasilia on the construction of two bridges that will unite both countries, reported the Minister of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), Arnoldo Wiens, who is part of the delegation traveling with President Mario Abdo Benítez to Brasilia.
Before boarding the plane to the Brazilian capital, Brasilia, Wiens said that there are several connectivity projects with Brazil that will be discussed during the bilateral meeting that Presidents Mario Abdo Benítez and Jair Bolsonaro will hold on Tuesday.
Among the binational plans, the construction of the second bridge over the Paraná River stands out, which will link the town of Presidente Franco with Foz de Yguazú, and another bridge between Carmelo Peralta (Paraguay) and Puerto Murtinho (Brazil).
Third bridge
The minister commented on another project that is being studied in the Congress of both Paraguay and Brazil, awaiting approval, which will allow the construction of a bridge over the Apa River., which would link San Lázaro (Vallemí) with the Brazilian town of Puerto Murtinho, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
"There are actually three binational bridges that I am called upon to work on as Minister of Works, in order to advance the negotiations," said Wiens, adding that the construction of the two bridges will be financed with resources from Itaipú Binacional, both on the Paraguayan and Brazilian sides.
The third connection, which involves the construction of a bridge that would link San Lázaro (Vallemí) with the Brazilian town of Puerto Murtinho, will be made with money from the National Government, through the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF).
"The dynamics of the bridges have an additional complexity, which is the binational issue, that is, it must be approved by both Congresses, there is talk of a joint commission (…) one of the proposals we have is that they be reactivated to move forward with the projects," he explained.
At another time, the Secretary of State assured that Paraguay will continue to have favorable growth, however he announced that this Wednesday they will present to the National Economic Team the investment plan, which is expected to be carried out throughout 2019 by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC).
In this regard, he commented that several works that were to be tendered only in the second half of the year will be brought forward, with the aim of accelerating the works, promoting a positive effect on the economy and generating employment for the national workforce.
