The presidents of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benítez, and Brazil, Michel Temer, will meet before Christmas on the border between the two countries, near the Itaipú dam, to give a "symbolic shovelful" to the construction of two new international bridges that will be built over the Paraná and Paraguay rivers.
More integration
LThe two constructions will allow for greater integration by connecting the Paraguayan town of Presidente Franco and Foz de Iguazú, as well as the town of Carmelo Peralta and the Brazilian town of Porto Murtinho., which will entail an investment of close to 150 million dollars for the Itaipú Binacional hydroelectric dam, shared by both countries.
Brazil and Paraguay are members of Mercosur, along with Argentina, Uruguay and Venezuela (currently suspended).
Last year, trade between the two countries reached $1.300 billion, which meant an increase of 12% compared to 2016, according to official Brazilian figures, reported local media outlet Última Hora.
Brazil is the destination for 33% of all Paraguayan exports, which makes it its main trading partner, the same local media reported.
