The shipment of Argentine beef to Mexico was authorized

Argentina's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries announced on Friday (13.01.2023) that 22 meat processing plants have been authorized to ship beef to Mexico, concluding negotiations that began in 2010.

Authorities confirmed that they received a note from the Mexican Health Agency (SENASICA) specifying the conditions under which the market for boneless and aged beef from Argentina will be opened.

They also explained that it took eight years of negotiations to reach this stage. Previously, Mexico had reopened its doors to Argentine corn.

“This is a highly significant achievement for Argentina and a new and extremely important market is opening up for our beef exports,” continued the authorities of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. At the same time, they insisted that Argentina already has open export channels to the European Union, the United States, China, Chile and Israel, among other buyers.

“Mexico thus joins the list of countries with the highest level of health surveillance that recognize the safety and quality of our meats,” they continued.

The president of Argentina's National Service for Food Safety and Quality (Senasa), Diana Guillén, praised her agency's staff for the new achievement and recalled that in July 2022 a team from Senasica inspected the local facilities.

Between January and November 2022, Argentine exports to Mexico reached 986 million dollars, a year-on-year increase of 54%, of which 500 million came from the agroindustry, which registered a year-on-year growth of 90%. The main products exported in 2022 were sunflower oil, wheat, soybean oil and wines.

In 2021, Mexico imported fresh or frozen boneless beef worth a total of USD 750 million.
