A seminar on security in the international supply chain was held in Chile

The National Customs Service of Chile reported that the Workshop on Strengthening Security in the International Supply Chain, taught by experts from the secretariat of the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism of the Organization of American States (CICTE/OAS). 

The workshop aimed to strengthen public-private relations and the involvement of the private sector in ensuring supply chain security, according to the statement released on Friday (13.01.2023).

The welcome was provided by the National Director of Customs, Alejandra Arriaza Loeb, who thanked the companies that accepted the invitation for their presence. After that, the customs authority explained that “the fight against organized crime and illicit trade requires that private companies and the public sector have permanent opportunities to share experiences and have clear international guidelines that can today ensure the logistics chain.”

Thus, the workshop featured the exhibition of different international experts in the field such as Marcelo Martínez, Manager of the CICTE/OAS Supply Chain Security Program; Lisbeth Laurie, Manager of the CICTE/OAS Maritime and Port Protection Program; Bernardo Berríos, Foreign Trade Consultant; André Luiz Olivera Trajano, Fiscal Auditor of the OAS Brazil; Diego Castillo, Consultant of the World BASC Organization; Marcelo Cortez, Official of the Los Andes Customs Administration and the person in charge of the OAS Program of the Chilean Customs, Magdalena Oblitas.

Representatives of the import and export sector of the Antofagasta, Metropolitan, Biobío, Maule and O'Higgins regions; and the mining, wine, pharmaceutical, agricultural and fishing sectors, among others.

During the training, attendees were able to learn in detail what the AEO program is and why it is a crucial tool in terms of security; what are the main challenges of illicit trade in Latin America, focusing on the importance of adopting risk management practices and cargo and container security and how this impacts the international supply chain. In addition, different practical exercises were carried out that allowed attendees to learn about work methodologies that they can implement in their companies.
