Argentina and Chile strengthen bilateral ties with President Kast's visit

The President of the Republic of Chile, José Antonio Kast, arrived in Buenos Aires on Sunday (05.04.2026) on his first official visit outside the country, where he was received by the Secretary of International Economic Relations of Argentina, Ambassador Fernando Brun, according to the official press release.

On Monday morning, Kast will attend a breakfast at the Chilean embassy with the new ambassador to Argentina, Gonzalo Uriarte. Afterward, he will lay a wreath at the monument to General José de San Martín in Plaza San Martín—an act that reinforces the historical ties between the two countries—before traveling to the Casa Rosada for a private meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei.

The objectives of the visit focus on Strengthening economic, energy, and judicial cooperation, and to share views on regional and international issues.

For this reason, the Chilean president is accompanied by a high-level delegationwhich includes:

  • Francisco Pérez Mackenna, Minister of External relationships
  • Trinidad Steinert, Minister of Security
  • Martín Arrau, Minister of Public Works
  • Paula Estévez, undersecretary of International Economic Relations
  • Juan Antonio Coloma, general secretary of the UDI

The visit underscores Argentina and Chile's intention to strengthen their bilateral ties, with a particular focus on economic cooperation and security, areas of direct interest to the customs community. The two countries share a border approximately 5.300 kilometers long.
