Argentina discusses meat shipment incident with China

-

The Argentine Embassy in China informed the National Service for Food Safety and Quality (Senasa) on Thursday (12.11.2020/19/XNUMX) of the alleged detection of Covid-XNUMX in the external packaging of a shipment of beef from Argentina. This is what Senasa reported.

According to release, the health agency reported that it requested the authorities of the Asian country to "expand the information of the alleged discovery because it was not carried out by Chinese Customs when the merchandise was brought in, but in a cold storage facility where it had been transferred before its final distribution."

The official agency stressed that the alleged incident "did not affect the product, which is in perfect condition and meets all required health standards, but only the outer packaging."

For Senasa, this detection "This is an isolated case, the first time this has happened to products from Argentina since the pandemic began. It did happen to products from other meat-supplying countries and also to other goods.

«The Argentine health agency continues to work to ensure that China is assured of a normal supply of meat, maintaining the required health standards," the text says.

The shipment in question entered the port of Shanghai on November 9 and part of it was transported and stored in a cold storage facility in the city of Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu.

The following day, prior to its release to the market, the CDC Nanjing authorities carried out tests on the aforementioned product, where the virus was allegedly detected on the external packaging.

El Senasa is investigating this isolated case to send a report to China as soon as possible and provide security that Argentina "continues to comply with its agreed health protocols and compliance with all national and international standards and guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)."

Between January and October of this year, Argentina exported more than 393 thousand tons of beef to China. There are 90 meat processing plants authorized by Senasa to send their production to the Asian country.
