Argentina eliminates the payment on account of 95% of the PAÍS Tax on imports

-

As of this Monday (25.11.2024), the Argentine Government eliminated the 95% advance payment that was applied to the PAÍS Tax on merchandise imports. This measure, which seeks to facilitate foreign trade operations, was announced by the Customs Regulation and Control Agency (ARCA) and will be made official through General Resolution 5604/2024, entering into force from its issuance.

According to the agency, led by Florencia Misrahi, the necessary adjustments have been implemented in its systems to ensure that taxpayers do not have to make this advance payment when formalizing their import clearances. “We are committed to simplifying the procedures and alleviating the tax burden on importers,” she stressed.

This decision also responds to the upcoming expiration of the PAÍS Tax, scheduled for December 22, 2024, as established in Law 27.541. In addition, the 30-day period stipulated by the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) is taken into consideration for importers to access the exchange market and make payments related to their operations from the registration of the customs entry.

With this measure, official import clearances from today will be exempt from paying the PAÍS Tax on account, marking a change in the tax burden for importers.
