The national government recognizes the Denomination of Origin (DO) Dulce de Membrillo Rubio de San Juan, a product that is part of the local culinary tradition, whose characteristics come from the particular quality of the fruit and the production process.
The measure, published in the Resolution 14 / 2018, is a recognition of a regional product made with added value.
"These tools constitute the added value for our regional economies and thus we can project them to the world. It is an important recognition of the work of producers and processors," said the Secretary of Government, Luis Miguel Etchevehere.
Seal
In addition, the initiative distinguishes with this Seal, which provides legal protection and registration, the quality linked to the geographical origin of the product, offering the consumer better information about the elements that influence its differentiation.
The recognition grants presence and visibility to Dulce de Membrillo Rubio de San Juan and adds value to the production of the fruit in a province that has 15% of the cultivated surface in the entire country; and that sells in bulk approximately 85% of the production to large industries located outside the province.
Quality of quince
San Juan has a significant production of quinces that have a high pectin content. (a substance that helps eliminate waste and toxins from the body) due to its high heliophany, that is, the time that its territory, and therefore its crops, receive direct solar radiation, details the Agroindustria statement.
SME Production
It should be noted that San Juan Rubio Quince Jam is produced by agro-industrial companies, cooperative groups, agricultural schools in the Province and artisanal micro-enterprises.
