-

It happened in the north. Three containers with 185 thousand counterfeit toys were seized by the Chilean National Customs Service at the port of Arica. The coordinated work of the Risk Analysis Units prevented the entry into the market of items that do not meet minimum standards for use by minors.

«Thanks to intelligence work by professionals from the Risk Analysis Units A series of suspicious shipments were identified in Arica and Iquique that were coming from China to the ports in the northern area. With this information, monitoring and tracking of the shipments was started until it was determined that they had arrived separately at the port of Arica," explained the Regional Director of the Arica Customs, Hugo Yávar.

"This detection is the largest this year and the most important one recorded in the northern region," said the Director of Customs.

"The three containers contained a total of 781 boxes of different sizes containing 185 counterfeit toys. This shipment has a customs value of US$ 874 dollars and attempted to evade more than $1 million pesos," added Yávar.

Strategic control

The procedure and strategic role of the National Customs Service were highlighted.

“There is an effort and a commitment from the government of President Sebastián Piñera in terms of security and in this case, the work of Customs not only applies to avoiding tax evasion, but also to preventing highly dangerous products from entering the market. These are toys whose composition is unknown and which contain parts and pieces that can harm children,” said the regional ministerial secretary of Finance of Arica and Parinacota, Pablo Arancibia.
