Chilean Customs reinforces personnel for border control

-

New customs officers have joined the Chilean Customs Service delegation in Arica to continue strengthening border control and inspection work.

The importance of the vocation of service and the strategic role played by the National Customs Service of Chile were part of the welcome message delivered by the Regional Director of the Customs of Arica, Hugo Yavar Oñate, to the 24 new officials joined the institution in northern Chile (Arica), as part of the challenges that the Service has to continue strengthening the work of border inspection and control.

One of the peculiarities of these new recruits is that the officials arrived at their jobs after being part of the first group to complete an induction plan that lasted a month at the Customs Training Center in Santiago, where they learned about the roles that the Customs Service fulfills throughout Chile and learned about regulatory and operational issues, among others.

For his part, the National Director of Customs, Claudio Sepulveda, highlighted that “As part of the modernization of Customs, one of the aspects has been the proper management of our human resources and the hiring of more officials to be able to fully fulfill our roles of protecting borders, trade and citizens.".

The highest customs authority stressed that in this context, "we have new challenges and needs to cover at the main border points of Chile, so the entry of these new officials in Arica reaffirms the commitment that we as Customs have with the XV Region and the country."

For his part, the Director of the Regional Customs of Arica, Hugo Yavar, noted that "these hires are part of the reinforcement of our staff, the Implementation of the Chacalluta (Peru) and Chungará (Bolivia) integrated controls and to respond to our border facilitation and border protection plans"

Among the 24 new officials are technicians in administration, foreign trade, accounting and agriculture, as well as graduates in secretarial work, risk prevention and legal assistant, a law graduate and an engineer in administration. All of them will have to carry out regular inspection shifts at the various control points in the region, in addition to being assigned to specific tasks in the Operations, Technical, Legal, OIRS and Administrative departments.

As part of the hiring process, after their induction in Santiago, they will have to face the reality of the workplace and in the next two months their respective managers will evaluate their performance and skills.

In addition to these new employees in Arica, new officials were also added in San Antonio (2), Los Andes (2), Valparaíso (1) and Punta Arenas (1).
