The Government of Uruguay signed on Thursday (30.06.2022/XNUMX/XNUMX) a memorandum of understanding to implement the Container Control Program of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Customs Organization (WCO), the National Customs Directorate reported in a statement.
The joint UNODC-WCO initiative has a global reach and was created to assist governments in creating sustainable implementation structures in selected seaports, with the aim of reducing the risk of maritime containers being exploited and used for illegal drug trafficking, organized crime and other illicit activities.
The Programme is also designed to facilitate cooperation against crime between States and international bodies involved in regulating container traffic.
The signing of the memorandum was carried out by the Director of Operations of UNODC, Miwa Kato, and the permanent representative to that organization, Juan Carlos Ojeda.DNA press release)
