From January 2 to March 14, 2026, the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) exercises the controls that correspond to it in the Pepirí Guazú (Argentina) – Sao Miguel (Brazil) Border Crossing, in Misiones, according to the General Resolution 5810/2026, published on January 7, 2026.
ARCA recalled that the customs service has the responsibility to inspect people, goods and means of transport linked to international traffic, as indicated in article 112 of the Customs Code (Law No. 22.415 and its amendments).
He further explained that General Resolution No. 4.169 of 2017 defined the authorized border crossings between Argentina and Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay, the permitted operations, and the authority responsible for each checkpoint. At crossings far from urban centers or with low traffic, such as Pepirí Guazú, checks may be carried out by security forces.
In light of this clarification, during the summer season, when tourist and commercial traffic to southern Brazil increases, the DGA (General Directorate of Customs) is assuming oversight of baggage and border traffic procedures, in coordination with Brazilian authorities. The Brazilian Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal) reported that it would have personnel on its side of the border crossing to handle customs and immigration operations during the same period, facilitating the flow of people and goods.
At the end of this period, the Argentine National Gendarmerie will resume regular controls, as indicated in Annex IV of General Resolution No. 4.169, the same official source stated.
