The President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez, stated this Tuesday (26.2.2019) that with the government of his Brazilian counterpart, Jair Bolsonaro, they will overcome the apathy of recent years, referring to the lack of works. In his opinion, the directors of Itaipú will have the challenge of directing the largest energy production project.
“From the beginning, Itaipu became a pillar of development for both Paraguay and Brazil, on the shared course of our Paraná River between both peoples,” said Abdo Benítez.
He said that the convergence of ideas, purposes and aspirations of both governments, within the framework of political leadership, constitutes an excellent opportunity to design a roadmap for the coming years with the generation of large-scale projects.
He indicated that the objective is to seek the economic development of Paraguay and Brazil. He announced that during his visit to the neighboring country, on March 12,, will discuss these and other topics relevant to both countries, both in the political and economic spheres.
"I am convinced that together we will be able to advance in physical integration projects, with the construction of two bridges, one over the Paraná River and the other over the Paraguay River, in order to deepen our trade and investments," he added.
The new Brazilian general director of Itaipu Binacional, Joaquim Silva e Luna, took office on Tuesday, in an official ceremony attended by Presidents Jair Bolsonaro, of Brazil, and Mario Abdo Benítez, of Paraguay. The ceremony took place in the hall of the Production Building of the hydroelectric plant.
