Chile issued customs recommendations for those traveling during Holy Week

-

Chilean customs authorities issued today (05.04.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) a series of recommendations to all citizens who transit through the different border points taking advantage of the long Easter holiday.

Travelers were informed that measures have been implemented in all Customs offices, such as reinforcements at certain times and greater coordination with other services in charge of border controls, such as the Investigative Police (PDI), the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) and the provincial presidential delegations that manage the border complexes.

Traveler's Franchise

"It is important to be informed about the regulations that exist for the different products that you want to bring, such as gifts, souvenirs, purchases or even cash, and also about the procedures for those traveling in private vehicles in the case of land border crossings, such as Los Libertadores (in the Andes), Cardenal Samoré (in Osorno) or Chacalluta (in Arica), which are the three that have the greatest flows and which increase even more at this time," reads the advice that was published on Wednesday.

Within the regulations, it is important to consider the traveler's franchise, which allows any person over 18 years of age to bring certain products into the country without paying taxes if they are for personal use, such as: two cell phones, a camera, up to 2,5 liters of alcoholic beverages, up to 400 cigarettes, a computer, a tablet, up to $300 in gifts and up to $675 in duty free, among others.

In addition, travelers can bring products that are not considered in the traveler's allowance, but they must declare them and pay the corresponding taxes. This refers to non-commercial merchandise up to US$3.000 and commercial merchandise up to US$1.000 invoiced. In such cases, Customs officials will calculate the amounts to be paid for their goods, and if these amounts are exceeded, people must hire a Customs Agent to be able to enter or import the goods (list available at customs site)

Regarding the amount of money that can be brought into or out of Chile, the agency said that "If you are traveling with more than $10.000 in cash or its equivalent in other currencies or bearer documents, you must make the corresponding money declaration to Customs.

Airport

Those who return through the Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport were reminded that they must go through different review and inspection processes of their luggageThe first consists of the inspection via scanner of the suitcases or packages being transported.

"If during this process the luggage is tagged with a blue strip or a red Customs stamp, a second inspection will be carried out. In this case, the passenger will be sent to a screening area where Customs inspectors will inspect the suitcases," explained the Customs Office.

Vehicle

In the case of traveling by land to Argentina and/or Bolivia, at customs controls you will be asked to present the “Single Vehicle Exit Form”, This document indicates that the vehicle is Chilean and records its departure from the country. In addition, the driver must carry the document that proves ownership, and if he does not have it, he must carry a notarial authorization.

In the case of temporary entry or exit of a vehicle to and from Argentina, this procedure can be done online, by downloading the online form at Car trips.
