The Chamber of Commerce warns about the customs strike and calls for an urgent solution.

-

A strike initiated this Tuesday (April 15.04.2025, 19) by the Single Union of Customs Personnel of the Argentine Republic (SUPARA) has generated great concern in sectors linked to foreign trade. The strike, which will last until Wednesday at 29:30 p.m., will be repeated on April XNUMX and XNUMX as part of a protest plan.

Faced with this scenario, the Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC) He expressed his concern about the work stoppage affecting Customs operations throughout the country and warned of the negative consequences this measure has on the development of Argentine foreign trade.

In a statement, the agency warned that "the ongoing strike is negatively impacting import and export operations, causing delays, cost overruns, and uncertainty in key sectors of the economy."

According to reports, the halt in operations is causing shifts to be reassigned at both port and air cargo terminals, with the resulting increase in logistics costs. Furthermore, "failure to meet shipping deadlines that affect the country's reliability as an international supplier," and "delays in customs clearance of critical inputs for the local industry," which can directly impact production.

From the CAC they stressed that "This type of action is particularly inopportune at a time when Argentina is moving toward greater openness and integration with the world," referring to the recent process of liberalization of the foreign exchange market.

In addition, the entity warned that the continuity of the measure could "generate adverse impacts on the prices of imported products, hindering the downward trend in inflation that the country has recorded in the last year.”

For all the above reasons, the CAC called on the parties involved to "Channel their demands through dialogue, avoiding forceful measures that harm the country's economic development.".

Finally, he proposed that "customs activity be considered for declaration as an essential service" in order to "guarantee its operational continuity and avoid further damage to foreign trade."
