Today is Transport Day, in honor of the aviator Jorge Alejandro Newbery, who lost his life in Mendoza on March 1, 1914.

Jorge Newbery was a pioneer of national aviation, as well as a seasoned athlete, public servant, engineer and man linked to science.

He was 38 years old when his plane crashed at the Los Tamarindos airfield, as the current area of ​​El Plumerillo in the district of Las Heras, Mendoza, was known at the time, while he was performing a demonstration prior to crossing the Andes mountain range the following month.

People knew him as the Mr. Courage Because a personal characteristic of Newbery was the absence of fear. His exploits had a popular impact.

He is especially remembered for being the architect and founder of the Argentine Military Aeronautics.
